Bowles' Nine-Point Performance Buries Bryant

from press release

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Rachel Bowles scored five goals to go with four assists to lead University at Albany women's lacrosse (1-0) past Bryant (2-1) 20-13. Freshman Dakotah Savitcheff scored four goals, while senior midfielder Ariana Parker had two goals and four assists.

Bowles got scoring rolling just 1:30 into the game, and UAlbany took a 4-1 lead after the sophomore tallied two more unassisted goals and Katherine Sweeney found the back of the cage from Parker.

Bryant brought the score within one before the Great Danes scored seven consecutive goals to end the first half. Savitcheff recorded her first career goal on a free position shot to get the rally started, and found the back of the cage two more times before the end of the half. Parker got in on the scoring run with a free position goal. Katherine Sweeney, Nichole Eamer and Maureen Keggins also scored to give UAlbany a 12-4 advantage going into halftime.

The Great Danes and Bulldogs traded goals to open the second half, and Bryant came within six with six minutes to play. Three UAlbany goals in four minutes thwarted off any comeback effort for the Bulldogs. Michelle Primomo, Bowles and Savitcheff kept the game out of reach for Bryant down the stretch.

Bowles tallied five goals and four assists for nine points to lead UAlbany. Despite fighting a double-team for most of the game, Parker scored two goals and recorded four assists. Freshman Dakotah Savitcheff posted an impressive debut with four goals. Nichole Eamer, Keggins, Allie Phelan and Sweeney also scored two goals each.

On the defensive end, Bowles and Parker each caused two turnovers to lead UAlbany. Primomo led the Purple & Gold with three ground balls. UAlbany also did not allow a free position shot for the entire first half.

Anna Berman picked up her 43rd career win in the cage. The senior recorded five saves.

John Battaglino's squad was four assists shy of a new team single-game Division I record with 11.

UAlbany (1-0) continues its season at Manhattan (0-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 p.m.
