Hofstra Closes Out Colgate 10-8

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore attacker Emily Considine and junior Sam Lenox each posted hat tricks and junior attacker Brittain Altomare added a goal and two assists as the Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse team captured a 10-8 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Tyler’s Field.

Considine’s goal at the 10:13 mark of the second half broke a seven-all tie and goals from Lenox and senior midfielder Alexandra Mezzanotte would give the Pride the final two goals of the contest and allow Hofstra to earn the two-goal victory.

The win improves Hofstra’s record to 2-1 this season, while Colgate slips to 0-2 in 2014.

It was a back-and-forth first half as neither team could pull away, with Hofstra holding the lone lead larger than a goal at 6-4 with 6:13 left before intermission.

Lenox got Hofstra on the board at the 28:44 mark to make it 1-1 on the scoreboard and a goal from Considine with 15:16 left before halftime would give the Pride its first lead of the game at 4-3.

Hofstra took a 6-5 lead into the break as Colgate’s Monica White scored with 2:29 left in the first half to account for the final scoring in the first 30 minutes.

Colgate would knot the score at six just 1:44 into the second stanza off a goal from Taylor Fischer and the game would be tied at seven after a goal from the Raider’s Alison Flood with 11:35 to play in regulation.

After Considine gave Hofstra the lead for good at 8-7, Lenox would notch her third tally of the contest with 9:44 to play to push the advantage to 9-7 and then each team would find the back of the net one more time to allow Hofstra to finish with a 10-8 victory.

Sophomore midfielder Becky Conto was exceptionally strong in the draw control category as she had a game-high eight. Junior defender April Iannetta and sophomore defender Shelby Milne each tallied two caused turnovers, while senior defender Emily Corzel picked up a team-best four ground balls.

Junior goalie Kelsey Gregerson had nine saves and three ground balls. Conto also added a goal and an assist to her draw control total.

Flood and Megan Ark each had two goals and one assist for Colgate, while Fischer had five ground balls. Jennie Berglin made 13 saves and added five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
