Pioneers Come Back to Win at High Point

from Press Release

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Denver women's lacrosse senior Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) scored two goals and made one of her two assists in the final minutes, sparking a 10-7 comeback victory over High Point on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Rachael McKinnon (Brooklin, Ontario, Canada) scored four goals, and junior Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) added a goal and three assists for the Pioneers (6-1, 2-0 MPSF).

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) made 11 saves and also picked up an assist in the game, and junior Kiki Boone (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) picked up five draw controls.

"It was a total team win," head coach Liza Kelly said. "Layne Voorhees had a great goal and a key knock down. Ali Proehl had a great stick check. Kiki was awesome on the draw, and we had some really strong plays in the attack that led to goals."

Denver led 6-4 at halftime, but High Point (3-4) scored three goals in the first 4:01 of the second half to take a 7-6 advantage.

Senior Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) stopped the HPU run with a goal off a Remenapp pass with 19:19 remaining to tie it before Etzel scored the next two goals and assisted on one to McKinnon with 3:53 left to seal the victory.

Denver next opens a three-game stretch at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, starting with Brown on Monday at 2 p.m. MT.
