STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Third-ranked Florida started the week by beating No. 3 Syracuse on Tuesday in overtime and finished it by beating another top-10 opponent.

The Gators held off host and seventh-ranked Stony Brook 7-6 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 7-0.

A Taylor Bresnahan goal with 11:46 left put Florida up by two and held up as the game winner, but the star of the game was fifth-year senior midfielder Nicole Graziano. Graziano scored four straight goals in 6:25 toward the end of the first half, the first two on the man up, to give the Gators a 5-2 lead.

Graziano also had a game-high five draw controls, helping Florida own that department 11-2.

Stony Brook, which falls to 1-1, scored three straight on the man up to tie the game at 5 with 14:19 to go, but Florida scored two of the final three. The Gators face guarded Dorrien Van Dyke (two goals, one assist) down the stretch and got a big save from Mary-Sean Wilcox in the final 1:30.

With wins over North Carolina, Syracuse and the Seawolves, Florida may even have a case to be the top-ranked team in the nation come Monday. The Gators also handled Niagara 19-3 on Friday night to complete a three-win week.

Sydney Pirreca notched an assist for Florida, which is now 7-0 on the season. (Lee Weissman)
