GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team played host to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College on Tuesday, April 12. The Panthers weathered a two hour delay for lighting and out gunned the Greyhounds, 24-4. With the victory Adelphi remains spotless at 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference, while Assumption falls to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the NE-10.

Claire Petersen led the attack, tying her own school record with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists. Elizabeth Fey also turned in a strong performance with six goals and six assists, while both Devan Crimi (1G, 4A) and Erica Devito (4G, 1A) had five points. Sara Sangiorgio was the only other Panther with more then two points, netting three points on three goals.

Defensively Adelphi was led by Katelynn Ciaci's three caused turnovers, while Courtney Acker had two caused turnovers of her own. Meg Brown and Marissa Mills had five draw controls each and Brown added five ground balls, while Emily Mercier, Frankie Caridi and Ciaci had three ground balls apiece.

Less then five minutes into the game, with the score knotted at zero, lighting struck, pausing the action for two hours. When competition finally restarted Adelphi ripped off a 9-0 run, on the way to a 14-2 halftime edge. The second half was more of the same, as the Panthers scored the first eight goals of the second frame before the Greyhounds found the back of the net. The final count was 24-4 in favor of Adelphi.

Statistically the game was all Adelphi, as the Panthers out shot Assumption, 43-12, collected more ground balls, 32-21 and won more draw controls, 15-13.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when they travel to Colchester, Vermont to take on St. Michael's College at noon.
