Orr Leads Limestone Past Catawba

from press release

SALISBURY, N.C. – Junior attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) dished out seven assists as Limestone (1-0, 0-0 CC) blitzed Catawba (0-1, 0-0) 19-3 in an NCAA Division II women's lacrosse game on Tuesday, February 12. The game was the season opener for both teams.

Oor led the way for the Saints as her seven assists were one away from tying her career-high of eight set last year against Lees-McRae. She added a goal for eight points along with a pair of ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Sam McCarrick (Oswego, N.Y.) delivered a game-high five goals and senior midfielder Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Jessie Aguglia (Webster, N.Y.) each had three goals apiece.

Senior midfielder Brittany Howard (Oswego, N.Y.), junior midfielder Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) and senior midfielder Chelsea Hargett (Ithaca, N.Y.) each contributed a pair of scores with Farrell adding an assist. Junior midfielder Kacie Harris (Stanley, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and an assist and junior midfielder Maia Czarnecki (Oswego, N.Y.) had two assists and a game-high tying four groundballs. Junior defender Jenelle Fortunato (Vestal, N.Y.) also had four groundballs.

Senior goalkeeper Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) played 37:01, allowing just two goals and making three saves to pick up the win and move to 1-0 on the season. Freshman goalkeeper Diana Rice (Seaford, N.Y.) saw the first action of her career as she played the final 17:59 and did not allow a score.

Limestone wasted no time in getting the season off to a strong start as they raced out to a 9-0 lead over the first 20 minutes of the game. During that stretch, Oor dished out six of her assists on the night, including five straight at one point, and Treat had three goals.

Following a goal by the Indians' Ebony Mills at the 9:10 mark to make it 9-1, Oor helped lead Limestone to two more goals before the half, assisting on one and scoring the other, to head to the break with an 11-1 advantage.

It would not get much better in the second half as the Saints kept up their offensive attack with another two goals out of the gate to make it 13-1. Ebony Mills would get Catawba back on the board with her second goal at the 23:16 mark but Limestone then went on to rip off six straight scores over the next 20:22 for a 19-2 advantage. A third goal by Mills with just five seconds left brought the game to the final margin of 19-3.

Mills led the Indians with her three goals on four shots and also had a pair of groundballs while Meredith Jones had the only other offense with a lone assist. Goalkeeper Bethany Davis was credited with five caused turnovers and played all 60 minutes in net. She allowed all 19 goals while making 10 saves and falls to 0-1 on the season.

Limestone returns to the field on Friday, February 15 as they travel to nearby Converse for their Conference Carolinas opener. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.

Sarah Oor now has 92 assists for her career ... she entered the season in third place all-time and now trails Kelly Lickert (2006-09) by 46 goals for the all-time mark and Melissa Howard (2006-09) by 37 for second place ... Limestone is now 2-0 all-time against Catawba, having defeated the Indians 23-1 in the first meeting on April 27, 2012.
