Crimi's 11 Points Leads Adelphi Past Lindenwood

from press release

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Earlier this evening, the #5 women's lacrosse team hosted the #15 Lindenwood Lions in a non-conference contest. After a tightly contested physical opening half, the Panthers poured in 10 second half goals to secure an 18-12 victory. With the win, the Brown and Gold advances to 15-1, 10-1 while Lindenwood slips to 14-2.

Devan Crimi had a career night as the junior piled on a career high eight goals and three assists for 11 points. Alexa Froccaro found the back of the net three times while dishing out one assist while Sara Sangiorgio and Rachel O'Brien notched two goals apiece. Melyssa Mathewson, Danielle Jaycox and Rachel Aitkens capped the scoring contingent with one goal each.

Jacqueline Williams picked up a team high five ground balls while Jordann Dempsey registered her 12th win of the season after making seven saves and allowing eight goals in 45:44 minutes of action. Taylor Hayes closed out the final 14:16 and allowed four shots to get by her.

For the visitors, they reached their 12 goals through a balanced scoring attack that saw Shelby Polk, Justiene Groothuis, Melissa Menchella and Maddi Osselloan all score two goals. Lindsey Palmer registered three while Ana Gullettn had one. Goalie Christine Hehmeye logged all 60 minutes, allowed 18 goals and made seven stops in the loss.

The Panthers were tested early on and were evenly matched in the team statistics, outshooting the visitors just 31-28, scooping up 14 ground balls to Lindenwood's 11, and taking just two more draw controls.

Mathewson and Crimi wasted no time getting the Panthers on the board as the duo scored within 19 seconds of each other in the opening 1:28 of a physical first half. Lindenwood's Palmer responded and put the Lions on the board at the 27:51 mark on an unassisted attempt, beating Dempsey to give Lindenwood their first goal of the game.

O'Brien and Sangiorgio extended their team's lead to 4-1 as O'Brien found the back of the net, unassisted, while Sangiorgio converted on a free position shot. Each team went on to swap goals on four occasions with Crimi netting the half's final score to make it an 8-5 affair.

The Panthers opened up the final frame with a 5-1 run that was made possible by three goals from Froccaro and two from Crimi while Menchella put in the Lion's only score during that stretch. With the hosts holding a comfortable 13-6 advantage, Lindenwood got two back before Sangiorgio and Crimi responded to hold the point differential at seven.

In the latter stages of the game, Palmer capitalized on a man-up opportunity while Polk and Groothuis chipped in with scoring efforts of their own, but the push would be too little too late as Crimi's 60th goal of the season capped the 18-12 victory.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, April 26 when they host the Falcons of Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 7pm. The game marks the final contest of the regular season before heading into post-season play and will begin with senior day prior to the start.
