Trinity Dominates First Half, Tops Endicott

from press release

BEVERLY, Mass. – The sixth-ranked Trinity College Bantams outscored the Endicott College Gulls, 11-3, in the first half en route to a 15-7 victory in women’s lacrosse action this evening at Endicott Stadium.  The Gulls fall to 1-2 overall after losing to their second straight nationally-ranked opponent while the No. 6-ranked Bantams improve to 2-0.

Trinity sophomore Morgan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.) led all scorers with four goals and one assist while classmate Kaitlin Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa.) added three goals in the win.  Junior attack Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) paced the Gulls with four goals including all three of the team’s scores in the first half.

Hildebrand put the visitors on the board 25 seconds into the game with a free-position goal before DeShaw answered two minutes later.  Trinity went on a 3-0 run over the ensuing seven-plus minutes to stretch the lead to three.  DeShaw’s free position goal with just over 18 minutes remaining pulled the Gulls within two but the Bantams responded with five unanswered to put the game out of reach.  Five different players recorded goals during the run, capped by senior co-captain midfielder Alisen Urquhart’s (Redding, Conn.) tally with 9:10 to go in the half.  DeShaw completed the hat trick with another goal from the free position before Trinity tacked on two more to take an eight point lead into the break.  Trinity scored the first three goals of the second half as the lead ballooned to 11, and coasted the rest of the way.

The Bantams held a 17-7 advantage in draw controls including 13-2 in the first half.  Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) played all 60 minutes in the cage and made 11 saves. Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up the win for Trinity despite not making a single save, while sophomore backstop Olivia Whitney (Danvers, Mass.) made four saves in the second half for the Bantams.
