No. 13 Middlebury Coasts Past Wesleyan

– Middlebury broke open a 1-1 game against visiting Wesleyan with a five-goal run in the first half en route to a 15-5 win over the Cardinals at Kohn Field on Saturday. The 13th-ranked Panthers improve to 2-0 on the year, with both victories against NESCAC opponents, while Wesleyan drops to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Ellen Halle scored three goals during the first half run, including back-to-back tallies, eventually capping the five goal burst at 9:43 off a feed from Sally Ryan for a 6-1 advantage. Each team exchanged a pair of goals during the final minutes of the first half, setting the score at 8-3 at the intermission.

Ryan added two more goals to start the second half, including her first tally where she forced a Wesleyan turnover setting up her own score at 20:32. Wesleyan answered with a pair of goals by Kaylin Berger, sandwiched around a Panther goal by Chase Delano, for an 11-5 deficit with 11:27 left to play. Middlebury answered with the final four goals of the contest including two more by Ryan, who finished with a game-high five scores.

Ryan's five-goal, one assist performance led all scorers, as Halle added four goals and Margaret Souther scored a pair and assisted on one more. Lily Nguyen earned the victory in net for Middlebury, playing 57:42, making 12 saves while allowing five goals. Alyssa Palomba relieved Nguyen with 2:18 left in the game, making one save.

Berger scored four of Wesleyan's five goals, as Catherine Taibi accounted for the fifth and Clair O'Brien notched the lone assist for the Cardinals. Maggie Drowica played all 60 minutes in net, making 11 saves as she allowed 15 goals.
