No. 19 Stevenson Rolls Roanoke

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse sophomore Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) scored a career-high five goals and seven points as the 19th-ranked Mustangs exploded for a season-high 18 goals en route to its third-straight win, 18-5 over Roanoke in their home opener Friday at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (3-1) picked up its first win in its first game at Mustang Stadium which opened in September. It was also the team's second home win against the Maroons in as many years after the Mustangs posted a 15-9 victory on Apr. 9, 2011.
Warner totaled four of her goals in the first half as Stevenson rallied from a 4-1 defict by scoring 10 of the last 11 to take an 11-5 halftime lead. She had a hand in six of the team's 11 goals as she also picked up two assists.
After Warner opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first half, the Maroons scored four-straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 21:26 left. Kathleen Wager tallied two of her team-high three goals for Roanoke (1-3) during the run.
With 14:17 left in the first half, Wager tallied her third goal of the game, unassisted, to tie the game at 5-5.
However, the Mustangs quickly responded by scoring six unanswered goals to end the half. Senior Emily Gartrell (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) scored all three of her goals in the run while Warner added a goal and two assists.
Stevenson continued its lengthy run in the second half by scoring seven goals while holding the Maroons to just two shots. Senior Laura Grammer (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) each scored two goals in the second half for the Mustangs who outshot the Maroons, 22-2.
Gartrell finished with five points on three goals and two assists while posting her second-straight game with at least three goals. Meiklejohn also posted her second "hat trick" of the season with three goals.
Wager paced the Maroons by scoring three goals while Rosie Knisley added a goal and an assist. Freshman Lauren Curtin made 13 saves for the Maroons who were outshot, 44-16.
Stevenson senior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) finished with six saves while freshman Krista Ashburn (Curtis Bay, Md./Northeast) had two in her first career appearance.
The Mustangs begin a four-game road trip on Monday when they face No. 1-ranked and defending national championship Gettysburg at 10:00 a.m.
