No. 8 Middlebury Blanks Hamilton in Second Half

– Middlebury broke open a 5-4 game at the half, holding Hamilton scoreless in the second session on its way to a 10-4 win. The sixth-ranked Panthers (8-0, 6-0) return to action at #11 Amherst on Saturday, while the Continentals (3-6, 2-4) visit Bates on Saturday. Hamilton came out strong, holding a 2-0 lead at the 21:13 mark. Emily Brodsky opened the scoring by cutting to the goal with a feed from Libby Schultz, before Rachel Friedman rolled around the crease and found the back of the net.

Middlebury answered with a three-goal run, eventually taking a 3-2 lead on a tally from Michaela Colbert with 15:53 remaining in the first half. Liza Herzog assisted on the first two goals on the run.

Madison Beres tied the game for Hamilton before Katie Ritter scored on a free position to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead with 8:33 remaining. Herzog made it a 5-3 game before Hannah Hoar closed out the first half scoring for the Continentals with 1:23 remaining. That would be Hamilton's final goal as the Panther defense held them to just three second half shots on their way to the win.

Five different players scored second half goals for Middlebury, as Herzog finished with a game-high three goals and two assists to go along with three ground balls. Ritter and Elizabeth both finished with a pair of tallies, while Hannah Deoul picked up five ground balls. Lily Nguyen finished with six saves in goal to earn the win.

Four different players scored for Hamilton, including Friedman who also finished with a pair of helpers. Dewi Caswell made three first half saves, while Kari Koga had six saves and five ground balls in the second half for the Continentals.
