HERKIMER, N.Y. -- Theresa Catteau's goal as time expired lifted Monroe Community College women's lacrosse to an 8-7 victory over defending junior college champion Onondaga Community College in the NJCAA championship game in Herkimer, N.Y.

The goal from Catteau gave the Tribunes their first national title in women's lacrosse. Monroe lost to Onondaga in last season's championship game.

"We've only been a program for four years and I think a lot of credit goes to Section V high school coaches for being phenomenal in developing players," MCC coach Craig Chamberlain told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. "Making Rochester such a hotbed in lacrosse has really helped us."

Catteau, the tournament MVP, was fouled with one second left while attempting to drive to the cage. She scored on the free shot to give MCC (15-3) the title.

Neither team led by more than a goal the entire game.
