BALTIMORE — Colorado State and North Carolina Club earned the No. 1 positions in Lacrosse Magazine's preseason rankings for the 2013 US Lacrosse Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) Divisions I and II, respectively, released today. Lacrosse Magazine also named Colorado State midfielder Hayley Bernstein and Oakland midfielder Desiree Messina as its preseason players of the year for Divisions I and II, respectively.

The Rams reached the WCLA championship game for the third consecutive season in 2012, thanks in part to Bernstein, who earned WCLA first-team All-American honors with 38 goals and nine assists. Colorado State won the 2010 and 2011 WCLA national championships. Defending champion UC Davis Club earned the No. 2 spot in the preseason rankings.

The Tar Heels won the WCLA Division II championship last year with a 9-8 victory over Towson Club in the final.

Messina scored 77 goals and added 33 assists to carry Oakland to a fourth straight Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League title and a third straight bid to the WCLA tournament (sixth-place finish). She was named Division II's midfielder of the year in 2011.
