Miccio, Blanc, Gonzalez, Bundy, Taylor Named Warrior/USL Players of Month

Notre Dame-bound Jake Taylor has scored 23 goals this season for Regis Jesuit (Colo.), including the game-winner in a 10-9 win over Kent Denver (Colo.).

The Warrior/US Lacrosse Players of the Month recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Sal Miccio, Northport (N.Y.)

Miccio, a junior who is committed to Sacred Heart, had a monster April. He had four goals to help Northport earn a 7-5 upset win over Ward Melville (N.Y.), and he netted seven more with two assists in an April 11 win over Connetquot (N.Y.). Miccio also scored eight goals in a win over Half Hollow Hills East (N.Y.) on May 3. He now has 50 goals and 17 assists this season.

Also considered: Weston Carpenter, Ridgefield (Conn.); Justin Coppola, Garden City (N.Y.); Jake Bonomi, St. Anthony’s (N.Y.); Andy Demopolous, Darien (Conn.)

— Will Cleveland

MID-ATLANTIC

Luke Blanc, Seton Hall Prep (N.J.)

Blanc is enjoying the best season of his high school career at Seton Hall. The University of Massachusetts commit has 44 goals, 17 assists and 11 groundballs through the month of April. Blanc shined in a couple out-of-state games as the junior had two goals against Darien (Conn.) and two assists against Ward Melville (N.Y.).

Also considered: Dane Swanson, McDonogh (Md.); Zach Whittier, Georgetown Prep (D.C.)

— Tom Peace

SOUTH

Brock Gonzalez, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.)

Raiders coach Terry Crowley can’t remember a single game in which Gonzalez hasn’t been face guarded this season, but that hasn’t kept the 6-foot-5, 240-pound athlete from scoring. Against Gulliver in the regional finals, Gonzalez exploded for three goals in the first eight minutes before the opposition adjusted its defense. The same thing happened against Saint Andrew’s in the regional semis, after he scored four goals in the first quarter and a half. A faceguard kept Gonzalez from scoring for the next couple of quarters, but he came back to score the game-winning goal with 12.6 seconds remaining.

Also considered: Stephen Avery, Montgomery Bell (Tenn.); James Shipley, Weddington (N.C.); Patrick Deans, Lambert (Ga.)

— Jonah Rosenblum

MIDWEST

Graham Bundy Jr., MICDS (Mo.).

Last week, Bundy notched his 400th point as a high schooler for MICDS, while also reaching 114 points for the season. The Georgetown recruit is chasing the Missouri state record he set last year with 146 points in a season. In the last six games alone, Bundy has scored 28 goals and added 22 assists.

Also considered: Wyatt Fruland, Indian Hill (Ohio); Evan James, Dublin Coffman (Ohio)

— Justin Boggs

WEST

Jake Taylor, Regis Jesuit (Colo.)

The Notre Dame-bound senior has helped Regis Jesuit bounce back from a rough start to the season. He scored 23 goals and assisted seven others as the Raiders won seven straight games following a 3-4 start. Taylor scored the deciding goal with 33 seconds left in a 10-9 win over Kent Denver to give Regis the South Suburban Conference title. The Raiders finished the regular-season 10-5 after an overtime loss to Arapahoe (Colo.) in the finale.

Also considered: Andrew Cumming, Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.); Marco Napolitano, Torrey Pines (Calif.); JJ Sillstrop, La Costa Canyon (Calif.)
