Games to Watch

Farmingdale (N.Y.) vs. Massapequa (N.Y.)
Nassau County Class A final – May 29

The Nassau A championship will be on the line and Farmingdale will be entering the contest looking for its eighth title. These two teams have played each other for the county crown for nine-straight years. The Dalers just were dropped from the Top 10 and a Nassau Championship would be a case to put them back in. This would be a nice send off to for Nadine Hadnagy and Amanda Turturro. Massapequa played the Flyers in a close 6-5 loss this season and can see this game being close as well. Danielle Doherty and Hayley Burke will pose as scoring threats for the Chiefs.

1. St. Anthony's (N.Y.), 15-1

The Friars finished out the regular season with wins over Garden City (N.Y.) 11-6 and Manhasset (N.Y.) 11-9 in overtime. Maggie Bill stepped for St. Anthony's in both wins with nine combined goals.

2. Garden City (N.Y.), 16-1

The Trojans fall from the top perch after the loss to St. Anthony's. Though Garden City remains close with a talented group that has won every game since the loss. The Trojans defeated Shoreham-Wading River 8-7 on May 11. Look for Garden City to build off the St. Anthony's loss heading into the postseason.

3. Westwood (Mass.), 18-0

Westwood deserves the No. 3 spot this season as the best team out of Massachusetts. The Wolverines continue to plow through the competition within the state and are looking for another state title. Ela Hazar has been a force this season, scoring six goals in the Wolverines 18-5 win over Norwell on May 14.

4. Mt. Sinai (N.Y.), 15-0

The Mustangs look primed for the postseason after defeating Babylon in a close hard fought 6-5 battle on May 7. Shayna Pirreca scored the game-winning goal.

5. Bay Shore (N.Y.), 16-1

The only blemish on the Marauders schedule is a two-overtime loss to Ward Melville. Fifteen regular-season wins earned Bay Shore the No. 1 seed in the Suffolk Class A playoffs. Cynthia Del Core has been a scoring threat for Bay Shore with 16 goals in the last three games.

6. Manhasset (N.Y.), 13-3

On May 10 the Indians suffered their third loss on the season, to St. Anthony's, 11-9 in overtime. The Indians fall out of the top five, but will try to stay in the Top 10 with playoffs coming up.

7. West Genesee (N.Y.), 15-1

The Wildcats got stunned by Christian Brothers (N.Y.) 7-6 on May 9 and slides them down the Top 10 this week. Hannah Emmer and crew will bounce back and look to use the loss as fuel heading into the playoffs.

8. Darien (Conn.), 16-1

The Blue Wave meets rival New Canaan (Conn.) one more time and this time its for the FCIAC title on May 24. Darien defeated Danbury (Conn.) in the semifinal 21-9. Darien already defeated the Rams 14-7 this season. The Blue Wave will be aiming for their fifth FCIAC Championship since 2006.

9. Sayville (N.Y.), 14-2

The Golden Flash makes a case to be in the Top 10 with seven-straight wins to close out the season. Sayville defeated some tough teams this season in Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.), Ward Melville (N.Y.), and Lindenhurst (N.Y.).

10. Northport (N.Y.), 13-5

The Tigers return to the Top 10 after an upset victory over West Islip (N.Y.) in the Suffolk County Class A quarterfinals on May 20. Northport's Dorrien Van Dyke scored four goals and had two assists in the Tigers 12-9 win over West Islip. Northport advances to the semifinals on May 22 and faces Ward Melville.
