Player of the Week

Caitlin Leary, Suffern (N.Y.)

Leary, who is committed to UConn, totaled 17 goals and four assists to lead the Mounties to three wins last week. The junior had seven goals to help Suffern secure a 15-5 win over Greenwich (Conn.). In total, Leary scored 17 of Suffern's 65 goals last week, good for 26 percent of her team's offensive output. The Mounties went 18-4 last season and ended the year with a 9-8 loss to Baldwinsville in the Class A state semifinals. Following a 12-10 loss to Garden City in the second game of the season, the Mounties have won three straight by at least 10 goals. Suffern faces Bay Shore (N.Y.) and Moorestown (N.J.) this week.

Farmingdale (N.Y.) at St. Anthony's (N.Y.), April 16

The Dalers have recovered with two straight wins after dropping two consecutive games to North Shore (N.Y.) and Garden City (N.Y.). Farmingdale, which is the defending Class A state champion, faces one of its biggest tests of the regular season when it travels Melville to face St. Anthony's. These teams haven't met since 2010 when the Friars won 16-12. The Friars are riding high after an 11-9 win over Vero Beach (Fla.).

Northeast Region Top 10

1. Manhasset (N.Y.), 5-0
Lindsay Ronbeck, who is headed to Florida, combined for 11 goals and one assist to power the Indians to a pair of wins last week. Manhasset secured a 14-8 win over Massapequa (N.Y.) and followed that up with an impressive 14-12 win over Good Counsel (Md.). Harvard-bound Julia Glynn chipped in three goals and one assist in the Good Counsel win.

2. St. Anthony's (N.Y.), 5-0
The Friars opened the week with a 16-5 win over Holy Trinity (N.Y.). Virginia-bound Kasey Behr finished with three goals to power St. Anthony's to an 11-9 win over Vero Beach (Fla.). Vero Beach was ranked No. 6 in last week's Nike/US Lacrosse National Top 25. Claire Quinn, a Northwestern commit, netted her second goal with 4:01 left in the second half to stake the Friars to a 10-8 lead.

3. Garden City (N.Y.), 6-0
The Trojans capped a fantastic week with a 2-0 record with wins against Farmingdale (N.Y.) and Massapequa (N.Y.). Haley O'Hanlon finished with two goals and two assists to lead Garden City to a 9-7 win over Farmingdale. Michaela Bruno, Kerry Defliese, and Margot McTiernan each added two goals. Bruno recorded three goals and three assists and Tara DeAngelo had four goals and one assist to lead the Trojans to a 13-8 win over Massapequa.

4. Mount Sinai (N.Y.), 6-0
The Mustangs stretched their winning streak to 26 games with a 15-5 win over Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) and a 14-7 victory over East Hampton (N.Y.). Florida-bound Shayna Pirreca finished with five goals and one assist and junior Sydney Pirreca, who has verbally committed to follow her older sister to Florida, added four goals and two assists in the first win. Shayna Pirreca tallied six goals and Sydney Pirreca chipped in three goals and one assist in the week's second win.

5. Darien (Conn.), 1-0
The Blue Wave improved its winning streak to 20 games with a season-opening 20-0 win over Norwalk (Conn.). Darien led 14-0 at halftime in its opener. The Blue Wave play at St. Joseph (Conn.) on Tuesday before a Wednesday showdown at Garden City. The Trojans handed the Blue Wave its only loss last season, 12-11 in double overtime.

6. Suffern (N.Y.), 4-1
The Mounties scored a combined 65 goals in posting wins over Yorktown (N.Y.), Pearl River (N.Y.) and Greenwich (Conn.). Suffern defeated Yorktown, 20-9, followed that with a 20-5 win over Pearl River, and closed the week with 15-5 win over Greenwich. Junior Caitlin Leary totaled 17 goals and four assists in the three wins.

7. Farmingdale (N.Y.), 5-2
The Dalers went 2-1 last week. Farmingdale bounced back from a 9-7 loss to Garden City with 13-7 win over Long Beach (N.Y.) and a 13-10 win over Baldwinsville (N.Y.). Baldwinsville and and Farmingdale met in last season's Class A state title game. Zoe Zebersky had five goals and Emily Marlow added four goals and three assists for the Dalers in the Long Beach win. Junior Bridget Weill, who has committed to Fairfield, scored a career-high nine goals in the close win over the Syracuse-area Bees. Farmingale faces a challenging week with games against St. Anthony's and Darien.

8. Notre Dame Academy (Mass.), 4-0
The defending Division I state champion, has now won 20 games in a row after going 3-0 last week. The Cougars won 11-2 against Andover (Mass.) and then won 18-0 over Ursuline Academy (Mass.). Notre Dame ended the week with a 16-2 win over Cohasset (Mass.). The Cougars have allowed just nine goals in four games.

9. West Islip (N.Y.), 8-0
The Lions have scored in double digits in each of their eight games this season. West Islip moves into the regional rankings after posting wins over Smithtown East (N.Y.), 14-6, and Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.), 13-6, last week. Emily Piciullo totaled five goals and one assist against Smithtown East. Lena Riportella had three goals and two assists against Half Hollow Hills. The Lions play at Northport (N.Y.) (5-1) on Monday.

10. Wilton (Conn.), 2-0
The Warriors opened their season with a 19-4 win over Trumbull (Conn.). Wilton defeated New Canaan (Conn.), 9-8. With the win over New Canaan, the Warriors snapped a five-game losing streak against the Rams. New Canaan defeated Wilton in the last two Class M state title games. Char Noels finished with four goals in the season-opening win. Annie Cornbrooks totaled three goals and three assists in the two wins.


Garden City plays at Connecticut powerhouse Wilton on Monday. Then on Wednesday, the Trojans hosts Darien. And if that wasn't enough, the Trojans close the week on Saturday with a game against North Shore (N.Y.). The Vikings have quality wins this season against Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) and Farmingdale (N.Y.). The Blue Wave handed Darien its lone loss of the 2013 season, prevailing 12-11 in double overtime. In that game, Kerry Defliese, then a freshman, scored the winner with eight seconds left in the second overtime. Defliese has given a verbal commitment to Syracuse. Darien meets Farmingdale (N.Y.) later in the week.


Skaneateles (N.Y.) is off to a 5-0 start this season. The battle-tested Lakers lost in last season's Class C state title game to Long Island powerhouse Mount Sinai. The Lakers have won each of their first five games this season by at least 10 goals. They have scored at least 13 goals in each game. The early-season success includes an 18-6 win over Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.), last season's Class B state champion. Kyla Sears finished with five goals and two assists and Alana Navaroli added two goals and three assists in the win over the Brothers. The Lakers play at Jordan-Elbridge (N.Y.) on Tuesday and then host Class A school West Genesee (N.Y.) on Saturday.


West Genesee (N.Y.) opened the season with a 16-3 win over Baldwinsville (N.Y.). Hannah Elmer finished with three goals and three assists in that win over the Bees, who were the Class A state runner-up last season. The Cougars also earned an impressive 8-6 win over Rochester-area standout Pittsford (N.Y.) earlier this month. That Pittsford team features senior midfielder Abi Cullinan (Notre Dame) and senior attackers Holly Turner and Kelsie Schindler, who are both headed to UMass. The Cougars are now 5-0 and face a challenging week with games against Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.), Auburn (N.Y.), and Skaneateles (N.Y.).
