Player of the Week

Kyla Sears, Skaneateles (N.Y.)

Under coach Bridget Marquardt, the Lakers have emerged as a Section III and New York state powerhouse. Freshman Kyla Sears has emerged as the offensive catalyst for the Lakers. She finished with 12 goals and seven assists to power Skaneateles to a 3-0 record last week. Sears has totaled at least three points in every game this season. She now has 43 goals and 22 assists in 13 games. She totaled 40 goals and 20 assists as an eighth-grader as the Lakers finished second in the state in Class C.

Game of the Week

Darien (Conn.) at Suffern (N.Y), May 10

Before playing at one of its toughest out-of-state opponents, Darien must first get through Trumbull (Conn.) and a very talented Wilton (Conn.) squad. Dating back to 2005, Darien has won five of the team's nine meetings, including the last two. The Blue Wave posted a 17-12 win over Suffern last season and then had a 13-5 win over Suffern in 2012. Prior to that, Suffern defeated Darien in 2011 and 2010. The Mounties and Blue Wave will continue their long-standing rivalry on Saturday.
