Comeback Over Rochester Keeps Ohio in Drivers Seat

Steele Stanwick played a role in three of a game-ending four-goal run for the Machine as they topped the Rattlers to stay a game ahead of Boston in the race for the fourth and final Major League Lacrosse playoff spot with one week to go in the regular season.

Down 15-13 after Dave Lawson's fourth goal of the game midway through the fourth quarter, Stanwick assisted Marcus Holman to start the run. Holman fed Kevin Cooper to tie the game with just over five minutes left, then Stanwick closed the contest out with two straight unassisted strikes as the Machine won their seventh on the season, 17-15.

The win leaves Ohio at 7-6, eliminating 5-8 Florida from the playoff race. Boston (6-7) holds a tie-break over the Machine, but a win over Florida next weekend at home OR a loss by the Cannons against the Rattlers in Boston will secure Ohio's first appearance in the MLL semifinals.

Holman led the Machine's offense with six goals and two assists on the night, while Stanwick had four goals and a pair of helpers. Kevin Cooper (2G, 2A) and Peter Baum (1 2-point G, 2A) also helped lead the Machine on offense. Brian Phipps earned the win in net with 18 saves.

Lawson finished with an assist to go with his four goals, with Mark Cockerton scoring four times and Jordan MacIntosh adding a pair of goals and two assists. John Galloway had 14 saves for Rochester and Jason LaShomb had one for the Rattlers.

Rochester went to 9-4 with the loss and is tied with Denver atop the league standings, though Denver holds the edge in the tie-breaker by a goal. Next week will determind the home field and playoff matchups as the season comes to a close.
