Gait Headlines Mammoth All-Decade Team

from press release

– The Colorado Mammoth announced today that Gary Gait, widely regarded as the greatest lacrosse player of all-time, has been named to the Mammoth All-Decade Team. The organization also announced that current Mammoth captain Gavin Prout and former captain John Gallant have been selected. Goaltender Gee Nash and forward Brian Langtry, whose #6 jersey was retired by the team on Opening Night, round out the list. Last week, the team unveiled the first five players to receive the honor: Jay Jalbert, Pat Coyle, Dave Stilley, Josh Sims and Jamie Hanford.

"These players are revered by Mammoth fans, and had a significant impact in helping grow the Mammoth brand and the sport of lacrosse in Colorado," said Mammoth President & General Manager Steve Govett. "They are the best of the best."

Gait was named the NLL's most valuable player in five straight seasons from 1995-1999, and captured his final league MVP award (his 6th) in the Mammoth's inaugural season in 2003 when he set a then-single-season record for goals with 61. He is second all-time in NLL history in goals (635) and points (1,165), and led Colorado to the Champion's Cup as head coach in 2006.

"It's going to be a great experience to see all these guys again that have done so much for the game and for the Mammoth," said Gait.

Prout, who was the Mammoth captain from 2006-2009, regained his captainship earlier this month. He is the franchise's all-time leader in assists (377) and points (558), and recorded his 800th career point on Opening Night on January 14.

"It is quite an honor to be a part of [the All-Decade Team] considering how successful this franchise has been," said Prout. "There are many players deserving of the recognition, so I take it as a huge honor."

Gallant is the team's all-time leader in games played (137) and has anchored a talented defensive unit since the days when the franchise was the Washington Power. He was the Mammoth captain in 2010 and 2011.

Nash was the 2004 NLL Goaltender of the Year and held the Buffalo Bandits to just nine goals in the 2006 Champion's Cup Final.

Langtry, the franchise's all-time leader in goals scored (230), recorded his 500th career point last season. On January 14, his #6 jersey became just the second ever retired by the team (Gait).

The All-Decade Team features four defensemen, three forwards, two transition players and one goaltender. All 10 players will attend the Mammoth game this Saturday, January 28, and are scheduled to sign autographs during pre- and post-game sessions. The halftime ceremony will pay tribute to the team in a special, on-field presentation.
