Playoff Schedules Set for Ocean City Lacrosse Classic

After yet another beautiful day down by the beach, pool play has concluded for the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic in Maryland, where more than 100 club teams have gathered to compete in eight different divisions. Highlighting the weekend's events are the men's and women's elite A divisions, featuring top talent, both current and post-collegiate players, from around the country.

Who impressed today? Only six women's and eight men's teams advanced to the playoffs tomorrow, but there were some standout athletes on all participating teams.

For the women, Salty Balty dominated Pool A, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record and the top spot going into tomorrow. Thirteen colleges are represented on this team: Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Yale, Loyola, James Madison, UMBC, Georgetown, Northwestern, Davidson, New Hampshire, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Denver.

In goal for the Salty Balty repping the Greyhounds is Molly Wolf who had saves left and right, keeping each of their four opponents to five or fewer goals. Their fast-paced offense allowed Salty Balty to score in the double digits each game with Virginia's Ella Cooper securing the draw and Syracuse midfielder Erica Bodt amping up the attack.

Other women who stood out were Beth Glaros, Maryland's lone starting senior who graduated this past season yet continued to net multiple goals for C2 Koopers, and her C2 Koopers teammate Samantha Brookhart hailing from Towson University. Lax Jam features Duke graduates Emma Hamm and Kim Wenger. For CyberCore, Tewaaraton finalist and Syracuse graduate Alyssa Murray lit up the cage in today's games as a recent Team USA addition.

The Rough Riders, primarily consisting of alumni from the Maryland-based club team, also had an untouched 4-0 record with the lowest goals against average of the weekend (2.50). In the Riptide pool, they defeated Kooper's 6-5 and Magg's Edge 8-5 and capped pool play off with a 10-0 shutout against East Coast Dyes.

Epoch Lacrosse, featuring Loyola's Pat McEnerney and Albany's Chris Underwood, took the second seed with wins against all four of its Seaside pool opponents – 84 Lumber, Really Good Friends, Salt Shakerz and Team Iceland.

1Lacrosse came in third with a 4-0 record and 3.50 GAA, just 0.25 above Epoch. Duke's Myles Jones showcased his speed and power in today's games, effortlessly sprinting past everyone. His fellow Blue Devils teammate Deemer Class led the way, alongside Hopkins attacker Ryan Brown. In goal for 1Lacrosse was Bryant's Gunnar Waldt, who made some impressive saves against Ponzetti's.

Just like its female counterparts, CyberCore played strongly, anchored by a roster of athletes from more than 10 different colleges, including Syracuse's Pat Powderly and Bobby Eilers, Providence's Mike Noyes and Andrew Barton, Georgetown's Jeff Fountain and St. Mary's Gordy Long. Within the fun atmosphere of this weekend's tournament, CyberCore liked to celebrate scoring goals with a headstand.

Other male athletes who stood out this weekend include Jack Lingo's Brian McGill out of Syracuse whose defensive work boosted his squad into the playoffs. Although Team Bozel didn't advance to the playoffs, they had a strong performance from the Stanwick brothers, Wells and Shack, who will both play side by side this fall at Hopkins.
