John O'Sullivan to Deliver Keynote at LaxCon
from press release
SPARKS, Md., Nov. 3, 2016 — US Lacrosse today announced John O'Sullivan, founder and CEO of the Changing the Game Project, as the keynote speaker of the 2017 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon).
O'Sullivan, a former collegiate and professional soccer player and a former coach at all levels, established in 2012 the Changing the Game Project to help parents, coaches and youth sports organizations put more "play" in playing sports. He has authored two best-selling books, "Changing the Game: The Parents Guide to Raising Happy, High-Performing Athletes and Giving Youth Sports Back to Our Kids" and "Is It Wise to Specialize?," and he contributes articles to the Huffington Post, Soccer America, and NSCAA Soccer Journal.
"Not unlike soccer, lacrosse's growth brings with it some pitfalls — namely misguided approaches by coaches and parents that ultimately can do more harm to our young athletes," O'Sullivan said. "The US Lacrosse Convention represents the largest gathering of lacrosse coaches and youth leaders, and I'm honored to be able to share my message at the event."
O'Sullivan, most recently a regional training center director for the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, left that post in 2013 to focus full-time on his mission. He has given TEDx Talks and addressed national audiences such as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, United Soccer Leagues, USA Football, USA Swimming, Canadian Sport for Life and more.
"US Lacrosse is making positive changes to the lacrosse playing experience through our Lacrosse Athlete Development Model, and John O'Sullivan's work very much aligns with our efforts to put players first," said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse.
LaxCon represents lacrosse's largest educational event and is set for Jan. 20-22, 2017, at the Baltimore Convention Center. The keynote featuring O'Sullivan will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. The convention is open to the public, and members of US Lacrosse can save up to $60 on registration. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees.
